The Blue And Gold is a musical collaboration between Juno nominated and WCMA Blues 'Artist Of The Year’ Ndidi O and folk-roots guitarist/banjo player Trish Klein (The Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford, Po’ Girl) which celebrates the musical artistry and legacy of pioneering female blues musicians. 

Out today, ‘Honey In The Rock’ is the first single from The Blue And Gold’s self-titled debut album set for release on April 29th, 2022. The album is a musical homage to the profound influence of black female artists on 20th century country / blues traditions and indeed on the evolution of all modern music. The album contains 11 songs recorded with authenticity, soulfulness and grit, including reinterpretations of the works of pioneering female artists Memphis Minnie, Lottie Kimbrough, Mamie Forehand, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and others, as well as one song by the legendary Indigenous songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie.

This punk rock rom-com / drama has been an amazing DIY effort and features a FANTASTIC indie music soundtrack including artists SAM TUDOR, DOUSE, ASHLEY SHADOW, DONZELLE, BALLAST, CRACK CLOUD and more! Hidden City is excited to welcome the amazing Blue Moon Marquee to take the floor next Wednesday January 25th !

Blue Moon Marquee write and performs original compositions influenced by early blues,folk roots,and jazz swing. A.W. Cardinal, a Metis of Cree heritage, howls with a distinctive thick and smoky vocal while playing a jazz tinged blues guitar. Jasmine Colette, aka Badlands Jass, is the rhythm section who not only commands the upright bass but also keeps the swing with both feet while singing harmonies. One of the most requested live acts on the Canadian festival scene.

DEC 14th - Kingdom of the elves (1916) with the Oliver Film Ensemble /  by trish klein

Lost for over 100 years, Louis Neher’s “Im Reich der Zwerge” is an hallucinatory experience that will take the viewer deep underground to the magical kingdom of the Elves. A charming piece of early 20th Century surrealism, "Im Reich der Zwerge" was discovered in the archives of the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam and incorporates every device that would have been at the disposal of the filmmaker of 1916.

Hidden City is proud to host this special Christmas screening of "Im Reich Der Zwerge" which will be accompanied by a live musical performance by the extraordinary Oliver-Film Ensemble

Excited to announce that Hidden City had opened its doors at 651 East Hastings St.! Offering fresh ground,, micro-roasted coffee and fresh baking as well as a selection of new vinyl LP's. 

Hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 6pm and we will be hosting weekly events every Wednesday evening from 8PM .
